THE HARROGATE BRIDAL SHOW - DRESS TRENDS PART 2

Writer's picture: Claire IngramClaire Ingram

Here's some more of the trends I spotted at the Harrogate Bridal show last weekend...

SPAGHETTI STRAPS AND V-NECKS WERE EVERYWHERE

I tried counting how many dresses had thin straps and a flattering v-neck and quickly lost count. Great news for those that like a little support without straps that are too thick – and they can easily be changed for a thicker strap if you want something a bit more substantial. Some of the v-necks continue to plunge dramatically too.

LACE STILL PREDOMINATES – WITH 3D ACCENTS

Lace still seems to be the fabric of choice for the majority of brands’ dresses – and lots of the dresses also had 3D elements (such as flowers) on the lace giving them more texture. But don’t worry if you don’t like it – there were still plenty of satin, chiffon and other options available.

SLEEVES – BALLOON AND DETACHED

There were lots of balloon sleeves on the catwalk and showfloor (the wider shapes that fitted at the top and bottom) and quite often they were detached – i.e. they are not attached to the dress but just sit on the arm. Cue me getting my sewing machine out to try and run up a few!

SHOW A BIT OF LEG

Lots of the designs now are featuring a split skirt to show off either a bit or a lot of lovely leg! Don’t worry if its not your cuppa though, splits can be sewn together, or some sheer sparkly tulle added to just give a glimpse and feed into the sparkly trend too.
