Brides who have decided to have a veil often ask me which one they should have with their dress, so I thought I’d share a few pointers to help you – but there is no right or wrong answer, and ultimately it’s all about what makes you feel fabulous! But here’s a few ideas that might help you:
THINK ABOUT THE SHAPE OF THE DRESS, OR YOUR SHAPE
Ballgown or A-line dress that shows of your waist? Then you might want to think about a veil that ends at your waist to further highlight just how tiny it is.
Chosen a fit and flare or fishtail? Then a fingertip or slightly longer veil that ends at the flare will really enhance the shape.
If you’ve chosen a slim, sheath-style dress to show off your slim figure, then a long, slim veil that echoes the shape can look amazing.
THINK ABOUT THE FABRIC AND DECORATION OF YOU DRESS
If your dress is very lacy, you might want to keep your train more simple so that you balance out the amount of lace. Less lacey and you can probably get away with more lace on your veil. You’ll want to try and match your lace as closely as you can though, and think about whether the lace on your dress also has beading /sequins etc and try to match those.
If you’ve chosen a very beaded or sparkly dress, you might want to think about a veil that has a few of the same beads or sequins scattered on it or around the edge. You may also be better with a single layer veil that shows the sparkle through it.
If your dress has lovely back detail, or a keyhole or low back, again think about a more sheer veil, as it would be a shame to have such lovely detail and then have it obscured by a veil with lots of layers or detail.
If you’ve chosen a very simple dress, then the world is your oyster! You can pretty much have anything you want, from keeping to the simple and elegant vibe, or going to town with one of the long and super-sparkly veils that are out there!
THINK ABOUT YOUR TRAIN
You can use a long veil to add the look of a train if your dress doesn’t have one, or to extend a train if you have a short one.
If you do have a long train, we suggest having a veil that is either quite a bit shorter than the train, or the same length or longer. Choose one that’s only just slightly shorter and it can look a bit messy, like you tried to match it but didn’t quite manage it.
Ultimately though it’s about what you want, so feel free to ignore all the suggestions and go for whichever veil makes you feel amazing!
